Good afternoon good people, and hope you are all well.
While I am putting together the 2015 Bordeaux en primeur report, and waiting for the Chateaux to release the prices, I thought I would draw your attention to a “little” wine from the South of France and some ready drinking vintages of it. Essentially, one of my clients has asked me to find a home for some over-stock that he has in his portfolio from mature vintages of Clos des Papes – Chateauneuf du Pape.
For those of you who are not familiar with the wine, Clos des Papes is one of the best and most respected estates in Chateauneuf du Pape. Paul Avril, the founder, was one of the people who created the Appellation for Chateauneuf du Pape over a century ago. The property, still in family hands and currently under the capable stewardship of Paul-Vincent Avril, is farmed organically. Large percentage of Grenache makes his wines silky soft and elegant but, a combination of very old vines, and very low yields, gives wines great structure and capacity to age, making some of the most admired wines not only in the Rhone but in all of France.
We have limited quantities of 2003, 2004 and 2005 vintage, all of which are very highly rated – please see notes below. As with all my offers, the stock was bought on release by me and stored at Vinotheque since shipment, so the provenance is about as perfect as it can be.
